New Alumni Relations office
As you may be aware, USC now has an Alumni Relations office within the University Foundation. This new office, and the appointment of Denielle Leishman as Alumni Relations Officer, is designed to provide a means by which the University and its graduates can stay in touch.
Graduates are valued members of any university community and are especially so at the University of the Sunshine Coast. All graduates of the University automatically become members of the USC Alumni—a group now numbering more than 3,500 people. The Alumni Relations office is located on campus in the Administration Building in office 106 on the second floor <+61 7 5459 4564; alumni@usc.edu.au>.
Alumni Homecoming Weekend
Our next event is the Alumni Homecoming Weekend-Power of Ten celebration to be held on Saturday 2 September. This weekend is an opportunity for graduates to return to the Sunshine Coast, revisit USC, catch up with friends and see what's happening on campus.
Planning for this event is underway. More details will be emailed to you as they become available.
Exhibition explores time
Observing the characteristics of time, space and place, Mandy McGuire and Andrew Dixon have created Time Place Space, an exhibition of spatial phenomena that will run in the USC Art Gallery until 3 June.
McGuire’s mostly figurative paintings construct a sense of time and timelessness through the manipulation of space within a constructed place. The images act as a narrative suggestive of a situation or a memory.
Time is further explored through Dixon’s layered, process-driven artworks, beginning with the grid as a formal element and successive layers of mark-making built to document time as a process. The paintings become an exploration of time as a continuum, showing interplay of the flat and the virtual.
Art Gallery opening times are Monday to Friday 10am–4pm, and Saturday 1pm–4pm. The Gallery is closed on Sundays and public holidays. Admission is free.
Alumni Reunion draws a crowd
To those Sunshine Coast and Brisbane-based graduates who were able to attend the Alumni Reunion in the USC Gallery on March 10, we thank you for your attendance and support. The Alumni Reunion, held as part of the launch of the University’s tenth anniversary and the Catalyst: USC and the Power of Ten exhibition, was a great success with more than 100 alumni enjoying refreshments, entertainment and the company of their fellow graduates.
USC graduate designs dream career
Bachelor of Arts (Design and Marketing) graduate Jordan Holden always knew graphic design and printing was what he wanted to do.
Now a graphic designer for JR Print—a company partly owned by fellow USC graduate Jon Harry—Jordan gets to put both his design and marketing skills to good use.
“JR Print services both local and interstate clients and I was attracted to the position by the opportunity to work with some of the newest and best printing equipment on the Sunshine Coast,” Jordan says.
“In my current role I do imposition for pre-press, graphic design, and operate post-press machinery. I enjoy working with clients to exceed their expectations, and seeing everyone’s excitement when we get the best results.”
What have you been doing since graduation? We are always interested to hear what our graduates have been up to, so send your story to Alumni Relations.

Graduation 2006 - a great success
The University celebrated its eighth annual graduation ceremony on 20 April 2006, with more than 450 graduates receiving their degrees in a gala event as part of the University's tenth anniversary.
Graduates from the Faculties of Arts and Social Sciences, Business, and Science, Health and Education, celebrated the end of years of hard work and long hours studying before a capacity crowd of family and friends.
A gala after-party was held in the Gallery Courtyard following the formal ceremony and graduates, family, friends, staff and special guests celebrated into the evening.
